GUEST LECTURE AT INSTITUTE OF PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH

GUEST LECTURE AT INSTITUTE OF PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH

Dr. S.K. Dutta  Emeritus Professor( Pharmaceutics) Jadavpur University  had visited Institute of Pharmaceutical Research on 18th March,2013  .He had 40 years teaching in Pharmaceutics. He  delivered a guest lecture on  the topic “  Colloids of  Yesterday and Nanotechnology of Tomorrow”    to  the students .
He told them that Colloidal drug delivery systems present a range of therapeutic benefits in the treatment of a number of challenging conditions, allowing researchers to cross barriers that have previously prevented efficient treatment while offering improved and more targeted absorption..

But he emphasizes on the fact that  today is the age of nanotechnology and the use of nanotechnology in medicine and more specifically drug delivery is set to spread rapidly.  Currently many substances are under investigation for drug delivery and more specifically for cancer therapy.  He explained the today pharmaceutical sciences are using nanoparticles to reduce toxicity and side effects of drugs and up to recently did not realize that carrier systems themselves may impose risks to the patient.

He  gave his valuable guidance to the  faculties and students of IPR  by solving their queries about the basic principles involved in Pharmaceutics in a very simplified  manner. In the meanwhile, he  also  discussed about the three laws of Thermodynamics and their utility in each area of science.
He explained about the  Biological thermodynamics used to refer to bioenergetics, the study of energy transformation in the biological sciences. Biological thermodynamics may be defined as the quantitative study of the energy transductions that occur in and between living organisms, structures, and cells and of the nature and function of the chemical processes underlying these transductions
