INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HEALTH

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HEALTH
·         It might only take you a few minutes to finish a meal but it takes your body around 12 hours before it has completely digested the food.
·         The human body needs iron to help perform a number of important functions. Iron helps carry oxygen to parts of your body in the form of hemoglobin. Not having enough can lead to iron deficiency and symptoms such as weakness and fatigue.
·         Examples of iron rich foods include red meat, fish, chick peas, tofu, beans and lentils.
·         Red blood cells are created inside the marrow of your bones, they serve the important role of carrying blood around your body.
·         Antibiotics can be useful in fighting off bacteria but they are ineffective against viruses, this is because bacteria and virus are completely different, both having unique characteristics that need specialized treatments.
·         Viruses are usually around 100 times smaller than bacteria.
·         Around 7 million people die every year from food poisoning out of a total of around 70 million cases. Careful food preparation and storage is vital in order to avoid dangerous toxins, viruses and bacteria.
·         Food allergies are fairly common amongst adults and even more so among children. Around 2% of adults and 8% of children suffer from some type of food allergy where the immune system makes a mistake and thinks a certain food protein is dangerous and attacks it. Well known food allergies can include unwanted reactions to gluten, seafood and peanuts.

GUEST LECTURE AT INSTITUTE OF PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH

GUEST LECTURE AT INSTITUTE OF PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH

Dr. S.K. Dutta  Emeritus Professor( Pharmaceutics) Jadavpur University  had visited Institute of Pharmaceutical Research on 18th March,2013  .He had 40 years teaching in Pharmaceutics. He  delivered a guest lecture on  the topic “  Colloids of  Yesterday and Nanotechnology of Tomorrow”    to  the students .
He told them that Colloidal drug delivery systems present a range of therapeutic benefits in the treatment of a number of challenging conditions, allowing researchers to cross barriers that have previously prevented efficient treatment while offering improved and more targeted absorption..

But he emphasizes on the fact that  today is the age of nanotechnology and the use of nanotechnology in medicine and more specifically drug delivery is set to spread rapidly.  Currently many substances are under investigation for drug delivery and more specifically for cancer therapy.  He explained the today pharmaceutical sciences are using nanoparticles to reduce toxicity and side effects of drugs and up to recently did not realize that carrier systems themselves may impose risks to the patient.

He  gave his valuable guidance to the  faculties and students of IPR  by solving their queries about the basic principles involved in Pharmaceutics in a very simplified  manner. In the meanwhile, he  also  discussed about the three laws of Thermodynamics and their utility in each area of science.
He explained about the  Biological thermodynamics used to refer to bioenergetics, the study of energy transformation in the biological sciences. Biological thermodynamics may be defined as the quantitative study of the energy transductions that occur in and between living organisms, structures, and cells and of the nature and function of the chemical processes underlying these transductions

Are “Requirements of Indian Pharmaceutical Companies from Pharmacy Graduates & Postgraduates”

Are “Requirements of Indian Pharmaceutical Companies from Pharmacy Graduates & Postgraduates”

There is a need of perfect platform for Pharma professionals from the academia and industry to interact and discuss the requirements of Indian Pharmaceutical Industries from pharmacy students. Is there any urgent need for an upgrade in the curriculum so as to produce students of the trade who are competent and capable of meeting the rigorous needs of the pharma industry and pharmacy practice? As we all know that pharmacy students are the pharmacists of tomorrow and key players within the healthcare system. They will be leading the profession in the near future and can play a major role in not only increasing awareness, but also changing attitudes towards the pharmacy profession. In order to cater to both industrial and healthcare aspects of pharmacy, graduate level courses should be separated as B Pharm-Industrial and B Pharm-Healthcare. The curriculum should be re-oriented to fulfill practice requirements in both industrial, as well as healthcare settings. The orientation of pharmacy courses based on feedback from the industry and health sector professionals should be undertaken on a continuous basis. We look forward to your wholehearted participation at this topic and hope you contribute your experience to the thought-provoking discussion.
